Local artist V. Ryan (Bunny) Lauzon has unveiled two pieces of art she created for this year's N.C. Oyster Festival, set for Oct. 20 and 21 at Ocean Isle Beach.
Lauzon was the guest of honor at last week's Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event, where she and chamber officials unveiled the original work.
"It feels wonderful," Lauzon said about the unveiling.
Lauzon said she was thrilled to be asked to create the artwork for this year's festival, after years of selling her work at the event.
"It was something I really wanted to do," she said.
Following the unveiling, she told chamber representatives, "This was a lot of fun to do. Thank-you for asking me."
The festival pieces depict a group of men dumping roasted oysters onto a table. They are framed by the Odell Williamson Bridge at Ocean Isle Beach and the water, with the outline of an oysterman shown in the background.
The work will be sold as 18-by-24-inch limited edition prints and are ready to frame, according to the chamber. All prints are signed by the artist and are available from the chamber or at the festival.
Lauzon also created this year's T-shirt design, a rendering of three oysters playing musical instruments above the slogan, "Shag With The Shuckers."
Many locals are already familiar with Lauzon's work. She has been producing award-winning oil paintings for several years, and signed limited edition prints of her works have been available since 1982.
She was born in Menominee, Mich., studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbus School of Art and the University of Kansas.
As a military wife, she traveled and painted extensively throughout the United States, Japan, Europe and Korea, hosting a one-person exhibit in Pusan, Korea, sponsored by the United States Information Service.
Lauzon's work is available at a number of local art galleries and stores.
